Our Story
My first unofficial tea lessons started during visits with my family in Taiwan. Tea was always on the table during meals, and after dinner, my cousins and I would run out to buy bubble tea and to set off fireworks. Over the years, my palette broadened to include not only artisanal whole leaf tea, but also matcha, and learning about tea became both a passion and a profession.
At Asha, we believe that tea today is where coffee was 30 years ago. Back then, the “best part of wakin’ up” was to Folger’s instant coffee, or if you were lucky, a freshly brewed cup at your neighborhood specialty coffee shop. Today’s afternoon tea is similarly polarized–It’s usually a brisk sip of Lipton’s at work, or you’re hard-pressed to find quality tea elsewhere.
